Our Need to Choose the Correct Dog Car Seat for Short and Long Trips.

I used to wonder how people chose their dog’s car seat, since there are so many out there. Some are cute, some are plain, some fancy. As I am now more familiar with pet products, my confusion is clearing.

There are those that securely attach to our car seat. Our pet will ride in comfort and safety.  There is the 3-in-1 (which I favor), that is a dog car seat, carrier, and stroller (and for other pets too), all in one.  There also are pet car seats that attaches higher so our pet can watch out the window. Some attach by the head rest and to the back of the seat. Our pet will travel safe, comfortable, and entertained. Booster Seats provide a luxurious ride for our pampered pet. Booster seats sit higher. For small dogs we can use dog carriers that can be secured to our car by using a seat belt. We must make sure that our dog meets the size requirements for the seat.

If our dog is too big for a dog car seat then we need to get a dog car seat belt.  We also need to remember, our dog is always safest in the backseat.

Making travel arrangements can be a tiring process. Making travel arrangements for our self and a pet can be even more stressful.  We must never give our pet a sedative before any travel. This can be dangerous to our pet’s health..

We need to put identification tags on our dog car seat, dog kennel, or dog carrier. This will ensure that we and our pet are reunited should anything unforeseen happen, saving us time and from being worried.

If we are making hotel reservations, we must check with the hotel to make sure that pets are allowed. This will save us from having to cancel our reservation and finding a new hotel once we arrive. Before leaving, we also should research where the Emergency Veterinary Clinics are in the city we are visiting, in case there is an emergency regarding our pet.

If we are traveling by car, we need to put smaller animals in a dog carrier to prevent them from either jumping out of the car when we open the door or from being hurt if the car comes to a sudden stop. For larger animals, we can purchase a harness (which is like a pet seat belt).

If we have to leave our pet in the car at any point during our trip, we need to make sure to leave two windows opened slightly so that our pet does not suffer from heatstroke.

If our pet suffers from motion sickness on car trips, we can check with our vet for the proper medication and care to give our pet.

We want to always consider our pets and their needs when purchasing dog car seats that they will be spending time in.  They need comfort and enjoyment too.
