I am NOW a Believer in Dog Kennels / Dog Carriers!
First and most importantly, I now firmly believe that both a pet kennel and a pet carrier give our pets security. They feel safe and protected in their ‘own room’. It also gives them a place to keep or hide their treasures. Think about it in relation to how we put human babies in their cribs and their play pens.
Pet kennels and pet carriers provide us with many benefits. When our treasured pet is in either, we can rest assured that they aren’t running off and getting lost, they are safe. Also, they can’t destroy our furniture, etc. by having the whole house to roam in and get into mischief. Dogs have very active minds and can spot lots of things that they’d like to do, such as chew up your shoes, or damage other non-dog items! They can still be your watch dog! With the great hearing that dogs have, they can hear noises even from outside and bark a warning. If there is anyone with bad intent outside, they do not know that the dog is contained and will quickly leave before the dog comes after them.
When trained properly, within reason, dogs can wait for long periods to go out for their potty. This saves us having to clean up messes.
When traveling with our pets, by having them in their carrier, they can’t jump out when we open the car door, never to see them again. By putting Gizmo in a carrier, then he won’t become lost and we won’t be heartbroken.
My granddaughter works full time and has two Boxers. When she is ready to leave for work, she merely says “kennel up” and they both run into their dog kennels. She makes sure that they feel it is ‘their room’, their territory, by giving them a blanket, water, and some toys. They don’t mind being in their rooms as it is their routine and they know she will come home and let them outside to exercise and play, and play with them. They all are on a schedule and the dogs adjust to it completely.
Never use their dog kennel to punish them when they have been bad. You want them to be willing to enter their dog kennels.
Remember to always reward your pet for good behavior! Also remember to select the correct size dog kennel for your dog!
